Birthday Season

At our house, April means birthdays. Mike and Libby both have birthdays coming up very soon. Mike will be 30 on Wednesday and Libby will turn 1 on the 19th (although we're celebrating both birthdays on Easter). Maybe our next child will NOT be born in April so we can spread things out a little bit :)

With our birthday celebrations coming up this weekend, I've become a little nostalgic about Libby's first year. Last year at this time I was very miserable and we actually did not celebrate Easter at all because I was too dilated to travel and visit family without some worry. Libby was born 3 days after Easter last year (this year her birthday is actually 11 days later). It's crazy to look back and think about how much she's grown and how much she's learned. Last year at this time I don't think I would believe how much she can do by herself and for herself. She's not just a little baby anymore - she's a little kid with feelings and interests. She knows what she likes and is able to let you know that. She even has favorite songs and TV shows. Last week when we were in Illinois Mike showed her a Dora the Explorer toy and she squealed with delight when she saw it. My memories of April 19, 2006 are still fresh enough in my mind that I'm not ready to go through it again any time soon and yet she has grown so much.

I'm looking forward this year to getting my little one dressed up in her frilly dress and party shoes! Too bad it's only going to be in the mid-40's for a high temperature. A few weeks ago it was in the 70's and 80's and now most of this week has been very cold and it will continue into the weekend. Now we all have to wear warmer things then we originally planned - Libby will have to wear tights and a sweater over her dress and I will not be wearing the skirt and sandals I had planned on wearing either. Oh well, that's Missouri weather for you. We'll post some pictures this weekend of Libby eating birthday cake and all dressed up for Easter and her birthday party.
