Very funny

This was posted in our staff bathroom at school - that's where I find most of my jokes and funny things to talk about...

A 1st grade teacher had 26 students in her class. She presented each student with the 1st half of a well known proverb and asked them to come up with the remainder.
1. Don't change horses until they stop running.

First Hair Cut

Libby got her bangs cut on Tuesday at Day Care - don't worry, I asked them to do it. Kim (one of her sitters) is also my hair stylist. She's a full service day care! She also is the one who taught me to style Libby's hair. Somewhere in between taking that picture last week and putting it up on the blog I forgot to mention that even though I had planned to thank her.

Anyway, here are some pictures with her new style. I wish I had been able to get some better pictures. Every time I tried to take them with her standing up she would walk out of the shot at the last second. Here lying down she just looks oh so thrilled to have her picture taken. I guess she thought she needed a little primping first.

First Big Bump

Last night we had a function up at school that I had to help work at and Mike wanted to come so we could try to win some tickets to Disney - we're going in March. Libby was getting pretty fussy and one of the teachers has a little wagon that she puts lunch boxes in. Libby kept pointing to it and saying "drive" so we put her in it and pulled her around the school. Well, the wagon stopped for a little bit so we could look at the things up for auction. Libby stood up in the wagon and fell forward. She busted her lip open and was bleeding EVERYWHERE. After a few minutes we got the bleeding to stop but Libby handled it like a champ. Her lip is a little swollen but all in all she's fine. I feel bad for her though because it looks like she took a fall at daycare yesterday too. Her little nose was a bit red and she had a red spot on her forehead too. Poor kid.

There's no place like home. There's no place like home. There's no place like home.

Yesterday brought those of us in the midwest some very interesting weather. On Sunday and Monday the highs were in the high 60's and low 70's with temperatures dropping during the day on Monday. If you know anything about tornadoes, then you know that this is favorable weather for one. We did not have any tornadoes touch down around here but it did get a little crazy at school Monday afternoon.

Around 3:00 the tornado sirens went off while I was getting ready to teach a 2nd grade class. We quickly went into the classroom they are supposed to go to for shelter during inclement weather. We sat with the kids in the "duck and cover" position for a little while before being told that they could sit up in a more comfortable position. The kids were a little scared asking if it was a drill. Outside was getting very dark so we told them that it was probably not a drill. Around 3:45 the outside doors of our school suddenly slammed OPEN and we were told to take immediate shelter. I've always heard that a tornado sounds like a loud train going by. It wasn't quite that loud but it did sound a little like a train for a few minutes. There were a few kids crying softly in the room but all in all they did great. After the loudest part was over I immediately called daycare to check on Libby and another teacher's kid while I told daycare I would go check on her kids. Libby was okay but a little clingier than normal.

Unfortunately, all of this happened during dismissal time. The buses were in route from the middle schools (with kids on board) when all this happened. Our dismissal time is 3:45 - our first bus showed up at 4:20 and the last one finally got there at 5:30. Any child whose parent hadn't shown up to get their kid by that time was held at school and so were teachers.

Libby has now been in "duck and cover" position twice although once was in utero. This time they just had snack in a protected hallway. These are just some great things we get to look forward to living in the midwest, I guess.

Little Miss Independent

Libby has always been very independent but as she gets older, she continues to challenge herself and us by trying to be independent. She is a natural leader. People gravitate towards her and are captivated by her. She certainly has a lot of fans - both kids and adults. We just hope that she will use her powers for good instead of evil.


Libby is learning to dress herself - mostly just putting on her shoes by herself. She also enjoys putting on our shoes. She put on my boots this morning but had a difficult time walking around in them since they came up past her knees!
