The Ever Interesting Adventures of Libby

Libby decided this weekend that she was going to actually branch out of her food rut and try new things this weekend. Friday evening we went to Moe's for dinner. We have avoided any Mexican/Tex-Mex places due to their lack of a non-ethnic kid's menu, but we decided to give it a try. The one thing that we thought that Lib would like was a cheese quesadilla...not only did she love it, but she kept just shoving it in her mouth! It was great that she really enjoyed it. This afternoon after church, we swung by McD's and Libby got her 1st Happy Meal. She wasn't a huge fan of the McNuggets, although she did eat one, but oh boy, she loved the french fries! I'm also not sure what she enjoyed more, the fries or the Hello Kitty toy that came with it! With her eating all these new foods, we joked that the grown-up Elisabeth took over our Libby!

A while ago, my parents sent us a NOAA weather radio to keep us informed of any severe weather that we may receive. We typically keep the radio in our room - that is until Hurricane Libby came through on Saturday. She unplugged the radio from its charger and decided to carry it around the house - that's the video below. We thought that it would be absolutely hilarious if she grows up to be a meteorologist and we can have this video played before her 1st TV broadcast, should she go that route. Enjoy!

It's taken some time, but Libby is officially a walker

It has taken Libby about 6-7 weeks to officially be a "walker" but she is doing it more and more these days. She doesn't usually cry or fuss when she walks but I think maybe she was upset that her hair wasn't styled for the video. Her stylist had the day off.

We are under his power...

Harry Potter's power that is... This weekend Libby has been with my parents and we have gone a little Potter-crazy. We went to see the new movie last night and then decided that we HAD to have the new book as soon as it came out so we went to Barnes and Noble to get it at midnight. I have only done that one other time when one of the books came out and wasn't too sure I'd even be able to stay awake long enough to enjoy having it that late at night. But we've both been reading ALL day and have very little left of the book to finish - Mike may even finish tonight. I'm sure I'll go back and reread all the books before summer is over now that this last and final installment has been released just to dig for clues I've overlooked over the years of reading the series. What an addiction!

YUCK!

This might be snobby of me, but I don't care... This morning Libby and I were at Wal-Mart. When we got to the check-out, there was a family behind me: mom or maybe grandma (I couldn't tell) and 3 kids probably ranging in age from about 9 to 2. The little girl, who I guess was maybe 7, just walked right up to the front of my cart and started looking at and touching Libby's face and hands trying to play with her. Mom/Grandma said and did nothing to stop this. To make it worse this child was FILTHY - she had dirt caked on her hands and smelled like she hadn't had a bath in several days if not longer and she's touching my child's face! Libby was trying to pull away from her but the girl didn't get the hint. Then the little girl started asking me why I was buying the things that were in the cart! I really wanted to turn around and tell mom/grandma the get her kid away from me and my clean little girl. Finally when I'm loading up the cart with my bags to leave the mom/grandma tells the girl to knock it off and leave Libby alone. Needless to say, when we got back to the car I germ-xed Libby's hands and face!

Now, I know that I work with kids like this at school but they are not in my daughter's face and that's what really grossed me out. I feel like maybe I ought to carry Lysol in my bag just in case a dirty kid comes around I can spray them down.

This summer is flying by. I was just looking at the calendar this morning and I have about 4 weeks left until I go back to work. I've hardly done anything that I wanted to get done before school started, so I guess I'd better get busy!

I know some have said they had a hard time seeing Libby's ponytail in the last picture, so here's a new one with a much better view of it. She really doesn't like me doing her hair much yet, but I think she'll warm up to it the more I play with it.

We're all ears

Libby's ear tube surgery went fine. We went back with her to triage and they weighed her and took her pulse and all that jazz. Then they took her off to surgery and it took about 10 minutes before the doctor came back out to talk to us. We then went and met Libby in recovery. She cried the whole time we were there but the doctors and nurses said it's just because she woke up in a scary place and doesn't know what happened to her. Once we walked outside with her, she was much calmer. She's been a little fussy yesterday and today but I think it's mostly her teeth bothering her or a few times things might have been too loud now that she can hear better. We'll see how this ear stuff pans out but I'm hoping it will be good for her.

The NEW Pebbles Flintstone

Libby's hair is starting to get pretty long but it's still very fine, so styling it is difficult. Here's my latest attempt. If you look closely you will see a small ponytail on the top of her head. What a look!


Libby is currently cutting 4 molars. She is pretty irritable at times right now but I'm happy that they're all coming in at once so that we're not going through it for months. She's also getting her tubes on Friday - wish her luck!

Our trip to West Virginia

Mike is originally from Logan, West Virginia and a good amount of his family still live there including his grandmother, Mom Helen. We drove there last week to visit her and a bunch of cousins and aunts and uncles. Libby had a blast! I think she even developed her first crush on Mike's cousin, Jason. It was a great visit - thank you all for your hospitality. We really enjoyed ourselves.


On the way there we really thought Libby would sleep almost the whole way. It turns out that she only slept about 2-3 hours of the 11 hour drive.


Libby loves to play with cords. We have to really watch her though because sometimes she gets them around her neck. She's playing with Wesley's video games here though and she really liked the controller too.


Ma Ma Helen can still rock little babies to sleep. She said that of all her kids and grandchildren that Libby is the best sleeper she's had.


Ma Ma Helen has 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Here are the greats: Caleb, Jared, Tori, Libby, Zack, and Wesley. Out of all 12 of those grandkids only 3 are girls!

Are we having fun yet?

We signed Libby up for a Tumble Bee gymnastics class. It's supposed to help develop motor skills and things of that nature. It's a 30 minute class - the first 15 minutes the kids are supposed to go through an obstacle course and then the last 15 minutes they work through stations. One station is a ball pit, one is a trampoline, a few are some toys on the floor and so forth. Libby really doesn't like the class much at all yet. We've been 3 times. The first time she cried and wouldn't do anything but go down the slide. The second time she did some of the obstacle course while crying and screaming, sat on the trampoline without crying, and played in the ball pit while crying a little bit. The third time was much like the second. I'm hoping by the 7th week (the last week) she might actually enjoy herself a little bit. The obstacle course is very overwhelming to her but I still make her try to do some of it. Her teacher says that he's seen kids that cry through several sessions of classes before they seem to enjoy themselves. I guess he thinks Libby might be one of those kids. We did get a few decent pictures of her at class though.


Libby is trying to escape from the ball pit. That's really all she does while she's in it. But she doesn't cry too much. And this last time, she didn't cry at all - she whined a little but no tears.


"This ball is good! It almost made me forget I'm trying to escape."


She likes to crawl around after the balls on the trampoline. She sat still for a little bit and the teacher bounced her which she really liked and then didn't want to get off.
