I quit!

Today was one of those days in which I want to quit my job and be a stay-at-home-mom. The kids at school were just being very disrespectful and it just seemed that lots of things were not going my way today. For example, after having 7 classes today (about 4 were just AWFUL!) I came home and put a DVD in for Libby. It turns out that the DVD player has also decided that this is the day to quit it's job. Enough whining from ME!

Libby has started saying "ma" or "mom" consistently now. YIPPEE!

Terrible Two's???

Yesterday Libby tested her limits with me. She has taken an interest in pulling at the fabric on her highchair. I wouldn't mind that much except that we'd like to keep it in nice shape and possibly reuse it with our next child. I told her "no, no" a few times and that didn't faze her. Then I moved her hand back to the tray and told her "no, no" again. That only made her give me a look that said "what are you going to do about it, Mom?" while pulling at her highchair at the same time. Telling her "no, no" then only made her want to keep pulling on her chair. Finally I had to give her a light slap on the back of her hand to get her attention. That worked for me! Lucky for me, she didn't know that if that hadn't worked, that I didn't have a backup plan! I really didn't think that at 9 months my sweet, cute little girl could have the ability to push her limits.

Libby's words

I have uploaded video of Libby saying "da" when prompted to say "mama." It took us awhile to get her interested in talking but once she started you can tell she thinks she's pretty funny! What a stinker! I really have no idea where she gets this "I will do things the way I want" attitude! I don't see myself in her at all. :)

Learning Opposites

Good morning - lookie here, we've posted 3 days in a row...and on the weekend too no less (yes Dave, that's in response to you!)

Libby's found it very funny this weekend to begin learning her opposites. Up until now, one of her favorite sounds has been "Da". Now, I think it's pretty cool, but we want her to say "Ma" too. We've been trying to get her to say it for a while, but to no luck. This weekend she's made a game out of it. Tricia will look at her, point to herself and say to Libby, "Ma". Lib looks at her, smiles, and will inevitably say "Da". Every time. Without fail. And Libby smiles the whole time too, like it's one big game to her. She's a little booger, that's for sure!

On the ice storm...we're still here. And it's still cold. And icy.

We've been toying with the idea of uploading some video to the blog of some of Libby's better moments on film. We figured it out (we hope) with this clip. To set the scene...Tricia was playing with Lib one day with her toy phone that she got for Christmas. When the phone would ring, Tricia would tell Libby that it was Daddy on the phone. Every now and again, Libby would respond with "Da". We managed to get it on film, but Libby really whispered it. Turn up the volume on your speakers and enjoy - maybe we'll do more videos!

Oh, and I apologize for the quality of the video - we didn't realize how dark our living room was at night until this clip!

We're on the move...

Libby is now moving around ALL the time. She has discovered that she can army crawl on her elbows and is very close to really crawling. She will get up on her hands and knees and very seriously think about moving forward. I have seen her go one little movement forward that way before crashing out on the floor. Her sitter is convinced that she will be crawling by the time she is back there on Tuesday. I think it may be a little bit longer than that but it will be soon.

A side note on the weather... We did get an ice storm last night and there is what I think is very very hard packed snow/ice on top. We're supposed to get the worst of the storm tonight and tomorrow.




I'm almost crawling!





CRASH!

Here We Go Again...

Winter storm #2 coming for us this weekend...we're forecast to get up to an inch of ice through Sunday night and one station has us getting 2-5 inches of snow on top of that...gotta love it. They are saying we could lose power for a while - let's hope that this doesn't happen!

For those of you who don't know, Libby is going to a new sitter now. We switched for several reasons of which I won't go into here but we are so happy with her new sitter! She is absolutly wonderful. Everyday they sing songs, read books, and play with something different. Each day I pick Libby up and have a written report of her naps, bottles, and diaper changes. It's so nice to not have to ask about how those things went each day. Libby gets great naps at the new sitter which makes for a VERY happy baby!

We've also started to notice that Libby has a little fiesty streak. We're really encouraging her to try to feed herself a bottle. She wants to go down towards the bottle instead of tipping it up to her mouth. When you go to help her tip it up she gets upset and then won't do it at all. It's either her way or not at all. [(this next part is said in my most innocent voice) I have no idea where she gets this fiesty independent spirit.] But it is a lot of fun to watch her try to figure out how to do things on her own.

New Year's Eve

Libby's first New Year's Eve went off fairly well. She didn't make it to ring in the new year but she did stay up a little later than normal. A friend of mine always has a "family friendly" New Year's Party. There were about 5 kids under the age of 2 there last night and their parents. Libby spent about 30 minutes just sitting and looking around at the kids. She was particularly intrigued by one little girl, Gwen. Gwen is about a month older than Libby and Lib loved her little shoes and her hair. She even leaned in to kiss her once. It was very cute.

At the party, I only knew 2 of the kids and their moms but all the kids were very sweet and friendly. They would come over to any of the adults and lean on them or try to play with them. Libby was the only one that wasn't moving around all over the place. I was actually very surprised because she's not shy but I think maybe she was just taking it all in. All in all, she did very well.
